Bathroom tiling
Walls and floors tiled, sealed and finished — from a single splashback to a full bathroom.
Learn moreTiling in Kington, HR5 and the villages along the Welsh border.
Kington is the far side of the county from us — about forty minutes — so we tend to
take whole rooms rather than half-day jobs there. Ring with your postcode and we’ll tell you
straight away whether it’s worth both our while.
Border country means thick stone walls with no cavity, and that changes the tiling. A cold
solid wall holds condensation, and condensation behind tiles eventually pushes them off. On
exterior walls in older Kington property we’ll usually recommend boarding out — which also
gives a flat surface to tile onto, something a stone wall never is — rather than sticking tiles
straight to the wall and hoping.
A lot of houses around Kington and Hergest still have original flag or brick floors laid
straight onto the ground. If you want a tiled floor over that, the damp has to be dealt with
first and the build-up gets thicker than people expect — which affects door bottoms and the
step into the room. All of that gets sorted out at the quote, with the heights written down,
rather than discovered on day two.
Water out this way is hard, and it shows up on dark and polished tiles as limescale marking
within weeks. If you’ve set your heart on a dark gloss floor or shower wall, we’ll say so
before you buy it and suggest a finish that doesn’t show every splash.
