Underfloor heating & tiling
Electric mats and loose cable installed under tile, with the right adhesives throughout.
Tiled floors and underfloor heating belong together — tile conducts heat better than
any other floor covering. The detail that matters is what goes between them.
The build-up
Insulation boards go down first wherever we can fit them: they stop heat disappearing into the
slab and cut warm-up time from an hour to minutes. Then the mat or cable, then a flexible
adhesive and grout rated for thermal movement. Standard adhesive on a heated floor will crack.
Commissioning
Heating stays off until the adhesive and grout have fully cured, then comes up gradually over
several days. We’ll leave you written instructions, and the electrical connection is signed off
by a qualified electrician.
